Turtle Crossing

I was not expecting to see turtles in Kansas but there they were! I saw many of them in areas that had marshes. Be careful if you help a turtle across the road. They will usually pee profusely if you pick them up and you could get wet. Because they do lose a lot of liquids be sure that there is a water source nearby or else they could become fatally dehydrated. Notice that the turtle in the photo has pulled its head back into its shell a bit in response to my presence.
