I was thrilled to conquer my first pass of the journey, 9,945' Tioga Pass. I hadn't done any elevation training before my trip and I did not how the altitude would affect me. I also didn't know if my knees were ready for all the climbing (especially since my bike weighed about 110 lbs with all my gear!). Fortunately, my very low gearing saw my knees through, and the fact that I had pedaled slowly up to the higher elevations, instead of zipping up there in a car, made me barely feel the affects of the altitude. By the way, the gentleman to the left in the photo asked me to join his motorcycle gang but it didn't work out because I was unfortunately heading in the opposite direction. :-)
