Sunflowers in Colorado

I came upon a bunch of sunflowers growing on the roadside just as I was catching my first real glimpse of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. You can just make out some mountain peaks in the background. I started seeing sunflowers on the roadsides in the central valley of California. I continued to see them all the way across the country. Their leaves are thick and feel a bit like leather.
