Here are three inspiring guys. From left to right, meet Roland Heap, Len Babin, and Bob Tichich, from South Africa, Connecticut, and Minnesota, respectively. They are all in their fifties, retired, and are taking on the Trans America Bicycle Trail* from Oregon to Virginia. I met up with Bob, who was also biking solo, early on in Kansas. He helped me out when I busted my rear wheel. I then met up with him again later on in the state and he had joined up with Roland and Len who were biking together. Meeting other cyclists is a benefit of taking the Trans America Trail. We all had a great time biking together for a few days. I hope that I can ride half as long and half as fast when I am their age! This photo was taken in Chanute where we had camped out for the night in the city park. Big farm equipment, like that "monster" in the background, was not uncommon to see along this stretch of the route. * For more info on the Trans America Bicycle Trail visit the Adventure Cycling Association.
