The Amish

Upon leaving Marshfield, Missouri I saw a surprising road sign cautioning motorists about carriages in the roadway. Not to far down the road I came upon two young men on a large, metal wheeled cart being pulled by some very large horses. I was living a relatively simple life for a summer, yet these Amish people embody simplicity. They are largely self-sufficient. They grow their own crops and do not use most modern conveniences. A few days later I came across a carriage full of Amish women that was stopped on the side of the road (photo below).
