My Other Activities

Here I am taking a break in The Narrows at Zion National Park. photo by Rachel Rodriguez

Open Space

I think having protected open space is very important for wildlife and for humans. That is why during the past year I have been volunteering with the Stanford Open Space Alliance, helping them to secure protection of the Stanford foothills which are under threat of development by Stanford University. I have spoken at public forums, written letters to the local papers, participated in rallies, and helped to gather signatures for petitions. back to top

Tai Chi

Learning tai chi at the Tai Chi Tutelage of Palo Alto has helped me develop the physical and mental strength necessary to bike cross-country. Over a period of six months I learned the slow form which is a half hour exercise. Tai chi has taught me to move my body in a strong, fluid manner while maintaining feelings of relaxation. It has especially increased the power of my legs and lower back. back to top

Yoga

My brother encouraged me to start taking yoga a couple of years back. I was interested in increasing my flexibility to help with all of my athletic activities. At Yoga Source (I believe the website is www.yoga-source.com but I have not had a chance to verify this yet.) I have mainly taken Bikram yoga- an intensive one and a half hour series of poses, repeating each posture twice. Like tai chi, yoga has increased my strength, flexibility, and ability to focus. Both activities also help to release all the tensions from a long day at the office. back to top

Other

I enjoy doing a lot of outdoor activities with friends, such as hiking and mountain biking. Believe it or not, I also enjoy some sedentary activities. I have been practicing meditation for a couple of years and it has helped me immensely in calming my over-active mind. Sitting in a cafe and reading is another favorite passtime. And, as you can probably guess, I do have an interest in the internet. I actually enjoyed spending extra time at work designing the second generation of the EV website. back to top
